The non-PI meeting offers the unique opportunity to discuss not only your most recent and exciting data, but to also cast some light on seemingly tough problems and hurdles that you are struggling with in advancing your project. Get together with PhD students and Postdocs from various stem cell labs within the GSCN to share ideas, experiences, potential troubles and unanswered questions in an informal setting.<\/p>\n\n

We will dig deeper into your research results, especially roadblocks and problems, to discuss them from various perspectives. The idea behind the non-PI meeting is not to prepare a ‘perfect’ story, but talk about a pressing issue (your science, technical issues, your research plan, your work environment, your career considerations, …) to get valuable input from your peers in an informal setting.<\/p>\n\n

The GSCN covers the meeting, one overnight stay in Berlin (max 80 €) and a dinner on 8 September 2026.<\/p>\n\n

Embryo models meet genome engineering: A dialogue on ethics and innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Recent advances in three-dimensional tissue culture and matrix interactions have led to the development of increasingly authentic models of human physiology, enabling researchers to study inherited and acquired diseases. This trend is evident in various somatic organoids, including neuro-organoids, and has also been applied to embryo models, which are now reaching advanced developmental stages.<\/p>\n\n

Genome editing tools have been widely used in organoid research to interfere with disease-associated pathways or repair inborn genetic mutations, raising only few ethical concerns. However, when applied to human embryo models, these techniques spark more intense ethical discussions.<\/p>\n\n

At this year's conference, we aim to initiate a dialogue on these critical issues and are honored to welcome xxxxx as our keynote speaker for Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n\n

During the ELSA Symposium on Thursday morning, xxxxx will join us to explore the latest advancements in the rapidly growing field of embryo models. We will also examine the emerging concept of human-on-a-chip models, which serve as in vitro avatars for patient-specific studies. This raises fundamental questions about the characteristics that render in vitro models entities with some form of human moral status.<\/p>\n\n

While this symposium will not provide comprehensive answers to these complex questions, we expect it to be a thought-provoking starting point for a broader debate on the ethics and implications of embryo modeling and genome engineering.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
